The Gastroparesis Experience in Full Detail
January 27th, 2012The delayed or slow emptying of the stomach is the characteristic of gastroparesis. The nerves or the vagus nerve in the stomach is paralyzed causing the abnormal function to happen. Because of the long time it takes for the stomach to digest the food, it causes several symptoms which can be painful and affects the way the person normally lives his life. Normally, the muscles in the stomach contracts and squeezes the food in strong motion to digest it. The contractions of muscles are aided by the nerves. If the nerves got damaged for some reasons, it makes the stomach muscles weak thus not digesting the food ideally. This leads to a lot of digestion problems and the common signs include: vomiting, bloating, nausea, weight loss and less appetite. Diabetes also damages the nerves in the stomach area and also leads to the formation of diabetic gastroparesis. There is no cure yet for this disorder.
